Complete US Mint Year Set (Foreign and Domestic) – 1903

1903 was a big year for new beginnings as both Ford Motor Company and Pepsi Cola were established. There are only tokens of the Pepsi Company, but think of the currencies throughout the world that showcase automobiles.

The arguably biggest event of 1903 was the Wright Brother’s invention. Everyone has seen the currencies, coins, medals and tokens bearing the fruit of their ingenuity. Teddy Roosevelt was president and the first Teddy Bear was released. What that has to do with numismatics may not be clear to some readers, but it is interesting. Perhaps to compile a complete 1903 collection, one may be forced to add a teddy bear in loving memory of our first “Progressive” president. Thirty-four coins are needed for the US issues. As for our foreign mintage, our American mints were authorized by Congress to produce coins for Costa Rica, the Philippines and Venezuela, bringing our total coins for the year to 57. Happy hunting.
